B20b4 with 270k on it
Hi guy, I need some opinions. I bought a b20b4 from a buddy, has 270k on it and it ran great when he pulled it out of his crv. I tore it apart, cams have no scarring on them, top end looks perfect. I'm putting a new oil pump, water pump, timing belt, and head gasket on it.
My question is, should I rebuild the bottom end of the motor? It ran good when pulled, cylinder walls look perfect, just don't know if I should rebuild it or not, money is tight so if I dont have to I don't want to.
Also, how should I inspect the crank bearings and all the other stuff down there? Thanks guys

It cant hurt and would probably be for the best to go ahead and re-ring it along with a full set of new gaskets and seals top and bottom, new bearings depend on how worn they are which would mean measuring with plasti gauge. just comes down to how thorough you want to be,a solid $300 or so now on new seals and bearing would probably give you another 200,000+
i would rip it apart for a full rebuild as well unless you need it for a short time as a beat around not to really be romped on.
personal story - i got a b18b from my friends wifes teg that got rear ended. it was always maintained and she never revved it out. i think it had around 220-230k miles on it and it didnt really smoke but would loose a bit of oil and coolant every oil change. i took it apart to use the block in a boost motor and i found it had a hairline crack in a sleeve. totally worthless even though it ran reasonably well and didnt have a smoke cloud following it around. compression was 175-185 psi if i remember correctly too

Agree with everyone else here; it's already out and torn down so you might as well spend a few hundred bucks and know your good for another couple hundred thou on the odometer.
Thanks guys, and I did decide on going with a full rebuild. Getting new pistons, rings, headgasket, arp headstuds, arp rod bolts, acl crank bearings. Also having my rods shotpeend
