2002 Honda Civic Ex 1.7L 4-Door Electrical Issues
Hello,
I recently replaced the transmission on my civic due to the old one slipping through gears and and eventually not shifting into gear at all.
I did the uninstall and re install of my transmission with an experienced mechanic friend of mine, although he does not work on hondas.
We have re installed the transmission and have connected all of the harnesses, even triple checking to make sure that everything is connected and bolted on.
The Issue :
When connecting the battery, the check engine and oil indicator lights immediately come on, even though the key is not in the ignition. After placing the key into the ignition and setting it to on, the radiometer needle begins to start bouncing up and down. When attempting to start the vehicle, the engine does not fire. Also; besides the indicator lights, none of the electronics seem to work (radio, lights, etc).
I have checked both the fuses under the steering wheel, as well as the ones in the engine bay. Nothing seems to be blown.
Could this be an issue with my ECU?
EDIT :
Problem has been fixed, it seems that we had forgotten to replace one of the grounds after the tranny install. The battery was grounded to the transmission but there was no grounding connected to the frame of the car, so the relays were unable to work properly. After adding a ground from the chasis to the battery everything began to work properly.

This is interesting. I have a 2002 Civic EX automatic myself. I did not change my transmission, however, I am experiencing strange electronic issues especially when it's raining it seems.
The other day, my ABS light came on followed by my airbag light (SRS), then my blower motor stopped working and dash lights started flickering. All on the expressway, and for the second time, while it is raining. I stopped the car once parked and tried to start it again. No luck...2 hours later I go to start it and success, though the battery seemed weak.. Anyway, this could be a ground also is my point. This sound right?
