i Got 4k for a car and dont know what to do
I am getting 4k for my first car and want a honda. Can I buy a stock honda off craigslist for around 1200-2000 then put like 2k-2.8k of new stuff in it to make it fast? New to cars so help me out please. Like engine swap and boost or something.

HT is full of very useful info just pick a forum of your desire and start reading ... The FAQ is a great place to start.. and there is also a search to use , hope this helps
First off if your buying a civic off of craigslist for that amount, pretty sure you gonna have to do a good amount of maintenance, All belts, tranny flush, oil change, spark plugs and wires, and dizzy cap n rotor. You could just buy one with all this done. But believe its a miracle to find one with that all done in that price range.
2nd off you havent even got a feel of the car and want boost, or a swap? Who even said the original motor was done for? To achieve what? Speed? Lol listen all hondas in the 88-01 era are slow! Even with a B swap you could get burnt by a prius. Trust me. You want a swap but keep in mind your swaping in a another 15 yr+ motor with probably issues on it already, plus they dont make showroom Hp or torque anymore! A b18b1 in 97 made 142 whp, in 2014 with 10 diff owners who all beated on the motor lol, you'll maybe have 110 whp. And thats being generous...Honestly IMO the K swap is the only swap with appreciative gains. But are like 6k, can you do the labor yourself? If not your looking at a serious money pit. OP, What im trying to say is you want power from eco boxes, which isnt going to happen. Yeah do a swap with internals the motor will sound and pull harder. But for 2k you only got 15-20 hp out of a stock motor. Barely noticeable.
If you want a civic buy one, and do maintenance and fix the issues, and enjoy the MPG. Don't jump into something you don't know.

OP, there is only one way to learn. Give it a shot and don't let any random dick hole tell you what to do.
I no longer need advice. Im getting a shell for 350 that is missing a motor and tranny, then getting a k20 and lsd tranny kit for 1900 and putting that in then using the rest of the money for fixing the rest up and building the engine, also buying a ecu and tuning.
