For other 92-93 EX/SE owners out there:

Our cars have a dual-path air cleaner and a dual length intake manifold. Each one is controlled by a solenoid.

I just did the troubleshooting procedure for both systems and found that both solenoids were bad. This isn't something that will throw a check engine light so it may not be obvious.

The variable intake adds about 10 HP, not sure how much the dual-path air cleaner adds. (90-91 EX Accords did not have the variable intake and made 130 HP instead of 140.)

Might be worth checking out though, make sure you aren't leaving free performance on the table!

 

As a follow up, I got my variable intake manifold working, and the difference in performance is definitely noticeable. I would encourage fellow 91 SE, 92-93 EX/SE owners to look into this, make sure its working.

It's easy to check. At engine idle, pull the vacuum line off the diaphragm. The diaphragm is on the driver's side of the intake manifold with a single vacuum line on the top. When vacuum is disconnected, the diaphragm should move. If it doesn't, the system is not working.

The solenoids for the dual-path air cleaner and the variable intake are interchangeable.
