Post Difference from a B16 and a B18 tranny.

Good evening, how do I know the difference between a B16 or B18 tranny. A buddy of mine told me that the B16 should have a green plate in front of the tranny, but if I don't have that plate the other way to find out will be to cruise on 5th gear around 40 - 45mph and check the rpm. If the rpm stays around 2000 or 2300 I have a B16 tranny. How true is that? Thanks.

Are we talking B18 LS, GSR or ITR tranny? All three will be different.

Are any of the markings or printed numbers still visible on the tranny?

Easiest way to start is by counting teeth on the final drive. Since it is mated to and LS motor I would be willing to bet it is an LS tranny.

I like to confirm trannys by counting teeth. people can swap cases. My buddy had an LS tranny in an ITR case (the LS case was cracked and he found an ITR case on EBAY)
