99 Civic DX Auto Spins but slow does not start
Hey guys, I need some help
I bought a 99 DX Automatic and the engine is having some problems. It will turn over but while it is turning over it makes a high pitched screeching, and it feels like the engine is spinning very slow. It almost feels like something is binding. The screeching is coming from the starter/ transmission side.
I tried the starter off my known working 2000 civic and it makes the same noise, so it is not the starter, I even tried a new battery with proper amps and it has the same symptoms. I also measured the voltage while cranking it is at a reasonable number.
I took all the plugs off to remove all compression, same issue. I tested all pistons are moving up and down, the timing belt is intact. I can spin the engine by hand with a ratchet on the crank pulley, I haven't taken the accessory belts off, but the engine spins without much effort.
I am running out of ideas. The transmission rolled freely when it was in gear so I don't think it is anything in the transmission binding.
Any ideas? Can something have seized like a bearing that will put too much force on the starter? I figured if there is too much resistance on the starter I should feel it by hand.
Thanks

Found the issue.
I thought I had loosened the alternator completely but I did not, I took the alternator belt off and the engine spins freely now, the alternator is completely seized.
Problem now is I am getting no spark.
I checked all the grounds, I pulled the distributor and checked the ignition coil, all the ohms read within spec.
I am not getting spark on any cylinder. I do get fuel and the pump is priming.

Generally if you dont have power to the coil its a Bad ignition switch.. U say its turning over tho correct? Does the main relay "click" when u turn the key over?

So I have power at the ignition coil/distributor plug I also have an ignition signal.
Could it be a bad ignition coil?
Fuses were all checked and are good
Checked the main relay its sending a signal, its getting an ignition signal at the key.
It seems to be an issue in the distributor.

So I am getting a signal from the ECM for ignition, but no signal out to the ignition coil, according to troubleshoot my car it is the ignition control module.
Car is running!
Ended up being the ignition coil, I tested it incorrectly the first time there was a signal coming from the ICM, I took a known working ignition coil and the car fired right up.
Thanks for the help.
