My daughters 03 accord has an issue that I am hoping is pretty minor. When put into gear, I can look at the driver's side CV shaft and see it spinning, the speedo will look like it is doing 40-55 MPH but the car will not move. I am leaning toward stripped splines in the hub or on the CV shaft, maybe a broken stub shaft on the CV. It was dark when I looked at it and I haven't had a chance to jack it up and pull the wheel off yet. Wanted to get some opinions and/or common issues related to this. Thoughts?

 

I've seen broken drive shafts. I haven't seen any stripped splines.

 

Not minor. Probably as BLKFLSH said. "Half" shaft axle. You don't need to take the wheel off. Pull the parking brake, put it in gear and let it idle, you'll be able to see what is and is not spinning.

 

Tore it apart last night. Was the half shaft. Minor compared to a transmission re-build!

 

True on the better than a transmission.

Guess I can deal with the minor occassional vibration vs. this. I don't have the dampeners on my half shafts.
