Temp gauge
Hey. I need help!!!!! My temp gauge in my type r keeps going up down up down up down!!! But never fully all the way up, I have put new coolent in her. But she had a new engine 2 months ago, so I'm really confused!!
That is a curious problem.
I would presume that the thermostat in the water pump is in good working order or that it is not functioning correctly.
The thermostat should only open to allow coolant through it and into the radiator when the engine reaches a certain temperature.
The coolant should then be kept at a certain range of temperatures depending on type of driving and or the air temperatures at the time.
Is the weather turning colder in the UK of late? Are you driving lightly or lively?
I would get your coolant strength checked ( not really an issue as you said you put new coolant in lately ) to verify it is strong enough to handle the temperatures currently in place.
As well, have the thermostat tested ( you can do it yourself by running the car up to temperature and checking the coolant surge tank for lower levels ). If the thermostat is working, your rad will be warm ( careful, don't burn your hand ) and the fan will cycle to pull air through the rad.
You might need your coolant system to be pressurized as I am sure the newer cars require this.
Whatever you do, do not open the rad cap if the car is at temperature, you will burn yourself as the coolant splashes out onto you.
Let us know what you find.
