My car is suffering cut oil when nearly up to 3000rpm and engine light is on. Searched here, probably is the issue of P2646. I want to try plug out the vtec solenoid valve and clean the screen by myself. One concern is, when I plug it out, any oil will throw out? Anything need to refill after that. Should I clean the vtc strainer as well? Please help.

 

How are you confirming that oil is being cut at 3000rpm? If oil is being cut than you have an issue with your oil pump and not the vtec gasket filter.

 

Just cannot go over 3000rpm. I'm buying obd scanner, will check the code soon.

 

go to a mechanic. you're on a wild goose chase based on your first post.

can't go over 3000rpm and blaming it on oil pressure to vtec solenoid.

chose to tell us the code you think it is without actually checking codes.

Sorry for my confused post. Code is not the key for my subject, as per my subject clean the screen of vtec solenoid valve. I would like to know any oil will throw out when I plug out the valve, anything need to be refilled.

 

Minimal oil will come out. You should still have oil on hand anyways in the event you need to top off the oil level. The VTEC solenoid screen has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with your engine not going above 3,000 RPM. You need to pull the codes and go from there. What would help even more is if you actually told us what car you are working on. I understand English isn't your first language but it is just common sense.

 

Just did this to my Element. Very little oil comes out, but put a rag under the filter anyway. By the way, there are two filters. One is part of the gasket for vtec and the other is a filter by itself behind the power steering.

15815-RAA-A02 FILTER ASSY., SPOOL VALVE
This cleared up my code and everything. So, change the oil and these filters at the same time. Let us know how it goes.

 

I replaced the one in my 1997 Honda Accord EX. Do yourself a favor and go to the Honda Dealer any purchase both "O" rings. There is one between the solenoid and the VTEC body and another, three "O" rings in one with a filter screen in the bottom "O" ring. The 3 in 1 goes between the head and the VTEC assembly. This is held on to the head by three bolts with 10 mm heads. It is much easier if your remove the thermostat housing. There are two "O" rings that you might as well replace these while you are in the process of changing those in the VTEC Solenoid. I would suggest you remove the unit from the vehicle and then remove the solenoid from the housing. You will find a small cylinder with a small offset hole, a plunger and a spring. Don't loose any of the parts as they are not listed individually. It will be much easier to get all the gunk out of the VTEC housing if you disassemble and clean the unit. There is an excellent Youtube video showing exactly how to change the VTEC "O" rings. I think it was on an Accord.

PS All my "O" rings were flattened and leaking. Absolutely no leaks since I replaced the various "O" ring seals.

 

I have a feeling its your distributor, or your ecu not seeing certain signals from the distributor. You need to check your wiring.

 

The engine light was OFF suddenly yesterday, my obd scanner found one error code from logged fault, it is P2646. no idea what to do now because the engine light off now and no more cut oil.

 

Today the light on again and cannot go over 3000rpm, with P2647 error code

 

P2646/2647 VTEC oil pressure switch. Clear the screen, if that doesn't solve the problem, replace the switch.

 

What year and model is this?

 

Our car has done this and is currently doing it again as well. Its going in to limp mode I do believe, we just changed both of our screens like 2 weeks ago so I'm going to check them again to see if they need to be cleaned, (which is for sure what I believe you also need to do) and then if they are clean and in good condition then meaning they arent the issue, I will probably just replace the whole vtec solenoid.

 

Sometimes they need to be cleaned out more than once before it stops getting clogged. Clean the screens and you’ll likely find more deposits clogging it.
