Default sandblasted journals/ acid etched

I see a lot of people sandblast the cam journals when cleaning up the head.

or sometimes acid etch

that leaves textured surface.

wouldn't that create more friction or does it actually help

All 3 heads Ive had cleaned get dipped in the cleaning tank and then bead blasted on the OUTSIDE of the head. The "acid" they dip our heads in should be aluminum safe and leave no change to the surface.

Likely your head was dipped in a tank with chemicals for steel
