I just bought a 96 DX Auto that I plan on reselling after fixing up. The price was good and it doesn't appear to need much. About $300 in parts.

What are the most common problems you guys have run into with these? Mechanical problems you run into?

I'm more of an accord guy.

What CEL codes are thrown?

 

No CELs yet. But the battery was dead.

Engine runs nicely except the infamous fluctuating idle that hondas do when there are vacuum leaks. It only does it once the car warms up and only in park. I think it may just be bubbles in the coolant since the radiator is leaking horribly.

And thanks for the link. I will check out the harness at that spot. That would've been something i'd be chasing for hours if it popped up.

 

More often it's just a dirty IACV.

 

Yeah, Ill be cleaning all that up nicely. Do civics have FIT valves? Thats what causes the idle surge in 90s accords if the coolant flow isn't right.

 

Not 96-00 stock Civics.

 

Ok. Clean IACV it is then.

The car's got 123000 miles on it and I can get it into "good" condition. According to KBB thats worth $1900. As a pretty generic car, how easily do you think it would sell? I'd settle for $1600.

 

We have an FAQ sticky for a reason. Maybe if those questions are frequently asked, they're also frequent problem...and maybe you should consider giving that thread a read.
