What do you guys think of exhaust cutouts that let you run open header? Has anyone used one before? I wanna put a stock muffler to cut down the noise. I can care less if it kills a bit of my top end on the streets. I only care about my performance at the tracks really..hence running open header with the cutout.

Really Ryan? Dude...after my swap was done...I ran my stock vx exhaust...and it blew a hole in the piping right after the header...so it was pretty much open header. High end power was noticeably better...without a loss in low end.

..but you are comparing open header to stock vx exhaust . I`d just have something made that`s 2.5" all the way so you can enjoy it on the streets, too.

 

Yea, right now...I'm 2.5'' all the way:

JG Header IB Modified 2.5'' Collector
Carsound 2.5'' Cat
2.5'' Crushbent ( yea i know...running open was too loud..and shop wouldn't do mandrel)
2.5'' Thermal Straight Thru Muffler (I think this is making it crazy loud)

I did this setup right after blowing the hole...still pretty strong for the mods..161whp/123tq.

I guess I'm considering this cutout option because this crap is too loud and you know how CA cops are. So I figured I'd throw a stock Si or GSR muffler (Jerry @ IB told me that's why his car is quiet on the streets).

get a real muffler and put a few mufflers in the pipe.
themal exhausts are loud because their mufflers dont do dick but amplify sound

 

Any recommendations? The reason why I used the thermal was because my friend didn't need it and gave it to me. Didn't know it'd be so loud. I was thinking just keeping this muffler and adding a resonator.

I've seen ES Ovals...but also hear mixed reviews...some say it's loud..some say no. I guess it's purely subjective.

ES is pretty loud. What about magnaflow?

I have one welded onto the b-pipe on the passenger side in front of the passenger rear wheel. I did it there so I can have easy access to cap or uncap it. Yes you lose a lot of torque but I gained almost .2 in the 1/4. Oh yea I have no cat.

 

i installed one in replacement of my testpipe...
i open it up wenever i streetrace...hahhaha
