Confusing/Unexpected engine build issue
I recently tore down my b18b1 due to a spun rod bearing I have had no issues with the engine until now. I pulled the engine and tore it down to get it ready for the machine shop and noticed who had ever originally built the engine had the pistons in the wrong holes example cyl. 1 piston and rod was in cyl. 2 and so on. None were in the proper cylinder as marked on the rod/bearing cap. Should I be concerned with this? I beat this engine for 50k miles before failure plus whatever the previous owner did. I was gonna have the rods checked/resized and put them back in the proper cylinders... Anyone have any feedback or suggestions? This is my first time running into this
are the numbers stamped (indentations) into the rods or are they flush (laser etched or ink)?
if they are not indented these are just the sizing codes from the factory which correspond to a clearance range so they can be matched with the crank codes. I usually see 2's and 3's in the engines I've had apart, but it is possible to have a 1, 2, 3, 4 all in the same motor.
if they are indented like someone had rebuilt this before and used a marking punch to number the rods you probably should give it a thorough clearance check before final assembly. this should be done anyway, but in this case just pay extra close attention to the results. and it would be to your benefit to get a factory service manual to confirm all assembly details.

Ok that makes sense, ill get them checked just wanted to make sure. My last engine build was an old german desigined colonge engine out of an old Ford and each piston/rod and labeled in that engine to balance the rotating assembley I just didnt want to mess up with my b18 and kiss another crank goodbye lol. Appreciate the advice
