Default Leaky Trunk

My trunk seems to be leaky! But it doesn't make sense that it would be coming from the taillights, even though I have messed with those before (taken out, put back in, no mods). It seems like the lining on the top of the trunk is failing. Does this usually happen? How much does it cost to fix? The lining also seems to be somewhat "sticky" - when I open the trunk I actually have to pull up to get it to rise up.

I have the same problem Ben. everytime I get tools from my spare tire compartment, the bottom is wet. I think mine is leakign from my weather stripping on teh left side of teh trunk. After it rains, feel aroudn the weather stripping all around to see what parts are wet. If it is anything like the window striping, it should not be hard to replace by your self.

im guessing you have a '94+ teg....i had the same problem, whenever it rained there was a small pool of water in my spare tire well. i felt around the seals and everything felt fine. my car was completely gutted for a while and i looked in the trunk while it was raining one time and saw where it was coming from. you have to take of that rear panel first i think, but if you look at the part of the tail lights closest to the trunk latch, you'll see a long plastic piece of the lights thats poking through. the metal. thats how the water would get into the car. so i just put some silicone around the bases of those plastic prongs, and my trunk hasn't been wet since.
