I've been looking for a 98-02 accord 4 door 5 speed for a while and have only been able to find a auto. So I bought it to get me around till I could find a 5 speed version. Well, of course the tranny died on me.

I need to replace the auto tranny to get around till I find a stick, and I have a few questions..

What all trannys are plug and play with a 98 F23A1 4 door?

Will a auto tranny from a 2 door work?

Once I get a used tranny from a parts yard, what should i do to it/replace while its out of the car before i put it in?

I'll search for a write up on how to remove/replace the tranny and how to replace the tranny filter. but I would appreciate a link if someone had it readily available.

f and h series transmission are interchangeable

 

So that means any automatic from;

92+ preludes and 93-02 accords with a F or H series will work plug and play?

 

i think the only h series is the sh prelude if i remember right

 

98-02 2.3 Accord
98 Odyssey/ 98-99 Izuzu Oasis 2.3 (lower gear ratio)
97-01 Prelude non SH (lower gear ratio)

Yup.
Replace the O ring on the TC, and differential axle seals.
In my sig I have a writeup on how to remove an AT from a 94-97. 90-93 will be similar and 98-02 will have a few more sensor cennections and sensors to look out for when removing.

There is no pan to access the filter. To replace the sump pickup filter, you will need to open the case.

I just got back from the parts yard to see if they had any, I seen alot of trannys with NA or HA on them I forgot which.

They only had 2 trannys that would work from what I seen. 1 was obviously missing the solenoids on top of the tranny.

That sucks that there is no pan. I would hate to buy another tranny put it in and drive 1000 miles and have it go out too since these are known for doing so. I'd like to do some preventative measures to ensure I could drive it a while.

Whats a good method to get all of the fluid out of the tranny I'm going to be putting in? Pull the converter and dump/refill? Should I use Lucus in with it?

 

You would probably get a better deal/more reliable trans from an importer. But theses transmissions still have the flaw of a faulty PRV.

You can simply do the drain and refill to remove any junk from the sump, buy three cans of Trans Tune and use it to flush/clean out any buildup and varnish. This will be aggressive and should remove quite a bit of gunk. Pull the shift solenoids and verify the screens are clean and free of junk, along with the pressure sensors an shaft speed sensors.

IMO if you can locate a good used core, bring it to a shop that does bench work, familiar with this transmission, and have them inspect it for any issues, replace the pickup and install a Sonnax PRV.

 

I replaced the BAXA transmission in my 98 Accord with MAXA transmission and it was no problem. Everything plugged up and its been running fine since.
