Question about my new 96 hx
So i recently bought a 96 hx, the previous owner did a swap because the original motor apparently blew and replaced it with a non vtec motor. the question i have is how do i trick the stock ecu into thinking it still has a vtec solenoid so i can shut off my CEL to pass my state inspection. I've heard the you can bridge two wires and ground another wire and it should trick the ecu, does anyone know which wires i would have to do that too? Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.
Edit: it has the stock ecu in it currently

Its code P1259 vtec system malfunction, i literally just need it off to pass my state inspection which i need to do within seven days, this isn't a permanent" Let's shut off my CEL light because it's annoying" kind of thing, i dont have any extra cash for even a junkyard ecu, besides i already looked and there arent any ecus in my area that i can afford right now
Its a non vtec head i didnt get the actual number yet i know its supposed to have a D16y8 but i think its a D16y7 head on it all i know is i still have the EGR valve without a Vtec solenoid the two connectors are just hanging off the harness near the distributor right now

Ive bridged wires on my last civic to shut off the CEL when i had a mini me, i had a p28 in a 95 lx with the d16y8 head and kept getting a Vtec code even with it hooked up properly, i bridged two wires coming out of the ecu and the light never came back on while i still owned the car i just need to somehow trick the ECU into thinking there is a vtec solenoid i just dont know where to start

Anyone have an idea that could just be a temporary fix? I just need to somehow trick the ecu into thinking the solenoid is there and connected
OP, have you tried bridging the pins for the plug that should be plugged into a VTEC solenoid? There should be two plugs - one for the solenoid, and one for the pressure switch.
I did try yesterday with what little daylight i had left. It didnt work from what i can tell but i didnt have a lot of my tools to work with, i know ill have more time tomorrow cuz i have the day off so im gonna fix a few other things with it too. I just put a paperclip inside the two wire connector and ran a wire straight to the negative terminal for the one wire connector
I don't have the FSM in front of me at work, but you might want to get one, and read through the diagnostic procedures for that specific code. Since you have the wrong head, you obviously can't fix it how the FSM would tell you to, but you can find what specs are being measured, and find a way to "fool" it.
Yea ill see if my father in law can grab me one from his dealership if they still have one for my almost 20 yr old car haha if not im sure i can find it somewhere
I'm not sweating. My bs posts get delete but others remain. I tried....
I can't tell you exactly where to find it (forum TOS/TOU), but I can tell you...Google is your friend.
Hey Tony, please don't stop reporting posts, especially stupid, or misinformed posts. Esorotic just needs to add a rule to move email from post reports into another folder I.e. junk mail folder.
I am in the middle of cloning my harddrive tonight so should be back up and running 100% in a day or two and will be cleaning up these threads as soon as I can. Your attempt is not for naught and I thank you for keeping your eyes and ears peeled.
Will speak to you privately on another matter later once I am back up and running. Keep your eyes open for the pm.
Ciao for now.
