Default Do RPMs fall in stages?

Am I seeing this correctly? J30A5 rpm falling like in steps? it is conveniently timed for the next shift.

Dont act like I'm a dumbass. After 16 years under hoods i'm not your 18 year old zit faced neighbor in a yellow stickered Civic. Just answer the question constructively and technically.

The RPM falls in steps IN NEUTRAL. Im not talking as it grabs the next gear. Run 1st gear to redline, clutch it at the top unable to continue pushing, I notice unlike every other car ive ever owned...which all use an old style throttle CABLE...those motors readily and fluidly rise and fall in one curve, not in steps. Do You guys need a video to understand what Im seeing?

I'm guessing the ECU does it in stages, according to speed, to sort of rev match the appropriate gear for that speed.

Drive by wire (no throttle cable) =computer controls throttle/rpm 100%.
Your most likely experiencing what the engineers at Honda built into the ecu for optimum shifting character.

Well, technically, there is a throttle cable. It just doesn't go directly to the throttle-body.

Thanks guys. I was mainly hoping this wasn't another surprise problem like my O2 sensor. Luckily that one is on top, front manifold by the radiator. Easy replacement.
