Default ls swap cooling system

I have a b18b1 I am chasing down a cooling issue with. The guy I bought it from was not very bright, and sold it to me thinking it had a head or gasket issues. I drove it home, no overheating at all. Coolant and oil are not mixed. Compression test was 210-190-200-180. Passed block test with flying colors. Here is what it is doing- the system seems to be overpressurizing. The upper and lower hoses are rock hard to the touch with the engine running, and it has burst two smaller coolant hoses running at idle. It does not force coolant into the res, it does not overheat. Ideas?

Could this be a water pump? The cap should relieve the excess pressure, but without circulation it couldn't do its job. I'm stumped.

He might have use a gasket sealer in the system so chances are maybe passage ways could be blocked.

edit: try leaving the cap off while the car warms up and idles to see if any bubbles produce. If nothing than replace the cap with a good one.

edit 2: I mistaken the replacement part as the thermostat part being replace, since the cap was replace then the next thing to look at is the thermostat, it might not be opening up.

if the cap works then do coolant system pressure test, and cylinder leakdown. maybe the head gasket is good but you have a cracked sleeve/head. doesn't always show up on compression test.

I agree, but it would show up on a block test.

i'll bet there isn't a thermostat. check your heater core? that's where I would look for blockage.

Remove the cap and warm up the car, rev it a bit and see if the coolant is surging.
