1993 Honda Civic IGNITION WON'T STAY ON!!!
When I put the key in the car and start it, it starts right up, but once I let go of the key, the car shuts off. Does any one in the Honda world have a answer or a breakdown.
Ignition switch.
If you hold the key in the START position, does the car continue to run?
When you turn the key from OFF (0) to (II), do the dashboard lights
illuminate and stay on or do they go out immediately?
Is your key attached to a heavy keychain? If so, remove the engine
key and try it wo/ all the added weight. No luck? Order a new iggy switch from Rock Auto and cruise youtube for an iggy switch replacement procedure.

He needs the assembly that sits behind the ignition switch. I had the same problem. Replacing it solved the problem. Do note there is a difference between alto and manual ignition switches
Yup, it's the ignition switch. I had the same issue with my car. The engine would shut off out of nowhere, and then the motor wouldn't stay on when I let go of the key. It would just turn on then off right away. A new ignition switch (which is not expensive) did the trick. It's an easy swap too. I looked up a DIY online somewhere.
Edit: I ordered something similar to this except I got an OEM replacement on eBay (Yes, eBay). I just did a simple Amazon search so you can know what to get. I don't think this is for your exact model civic, so verify that It is for your car before ordering. You don't have to get the one that comes with a new cylinder lock. Doing so will force you to have a new set of keys to start the vehicle. If you look at the link I posted, then you will see a white round "thing" at the end of the harness. Inside it are coils. If I remember correctly, an old coil will split due to heat, causing your motor to turn off. This is what needs to be replaced. I remember my old one had black marks inside, which indicate a damaged coil.

I just popped my switch apart tonight. It's not very hard to do.
Inside mine were 2 moving parts. I took each one, sanded down the contacts *very burnt* until all the burnt crap was gone. On the other side of the switch *harness side* I did the same.
Rubbed a touch of dielectric grease in there and mine works fine now.
Didn't have to remove the harness or anything to do this. Did it all in the car.
