Default 4x1 header on a 1994 DX? Worth it?

So, I came across this opportunity to install a 4x1 header + exhaust + catback in my car, which is a 1994 DX 1.5L Civic Hatch 5-MT.

Is it worth the upgrade? I know I would gain zero to fiveish HP... but its something, isnt it? Since I dont have money to buy a new engine or a vti...

Well, because it's not a VTEC engine, I am afraid to do anything and compromise the performance on low RPM. Will that happen?

THIS is my car.

THIS is the last upgrade I did.

And is the last picture

Thanks for the help

Is there something wrong with your existing header?

To make it effective, you should match the header collector with the same sized cat back.
So to answer your question: yes and no

Long and narrow is good for low-end torque. You haven't told us *what* 4-1 header or exhaust this is, so we can't give you a satisfactory answer.

Good point!

Its a 2.25" header.
Is this the information I forgot to mention?

That's just the collector size. It's a good start, but not everything. What's the runner size? Runner length? Exhaust piping size?

To a ricer, yes a 4-1 header is worth it. To those that know what they are talking about, the answer depends.

Tom, you should never trust claimed dyno results that fail to give you a complete picture. Not only does he not mention what dyno was used (as well as timeframes and procedures on said dyno), he also fails to mention if there was any tuning done at any point before, while, or after parts are installed. He also leaves so many gaping holes in his explanations, that his post basically reads as borderline fanboi'ism brushed with a modicum of knowledge that may or may not just be reworded Wikipedia articles.

The last time I did comparative dynos, they were 6 months apart. I gained 9 WHP from an FI D series just because I went from a 100 degree summer day, to a 60 degree winter day, in Florida, with absolutely no other changes. Should we then tell people to only drive when it's cold if they want to go faster? Maybe move all race seasons from their current months, back a few, so we can have the finals and championships in December?

Now, let's look at prices. An AEM V2 CAI for a Y8 retails for just shy of $250. Retail price on an Edelbrock throttle body, part #4791 (the smallest they offer), $430, just for a throttle body. Edelbrock intake manifold, part #4756, $350. You're now at $1030, and that's just for the intake side! Now on the exhaust side, he mentions Bisimoto (haha that's ******* hilarious...). Bisimoto appears to have stopped supporting the Honda world on his website (imagine that, he doesn't support the people who called him on his bullshit), but I seem to remember a header from him being in what, the $850 range? We'll just forget about exhausts, catalytic converters, and all the other fun stuff he leaves out, since we're already at a grand total of...

$1800, for 17 horse.

If you spend $1800 for 17 horse on a Civic, you had damn well better be racing it on a level that you're making a living off of. Otherwise, you have more money than sense, and I have a bridge I'd like to sell you. I'll even include a copper statue of a woman for the right price!

People like to say D series motors see no gain from the usual Intake and Exhaust mods but that's not true. They do get a bit of a gain.

You can see his whole informative post here:

I must say 109whp to 126whp is not a zero gain everyone likes to claim on SOHC motors.

I suspect Edlebrock probably asked him to test the Performer X being the Victor X is about power from 7000-10K rpm and the stock D16Y8 is capped at 7500 rpm. Performer is for 4500-8200 rpm power boost.
Very informative! Really really good!
Thanks for the link, man!

Are you getting it for free? Then yes its worth it. Bisi is a "scientist", don't question him.

Thats for sure.
I have no intention to run.

So, in conclusion, no, I won't pay for a 4x1 header + 2.25" catback/exhaust.

Thanks for sharing the informations, man!
