Default boosted y7 on 5lbs.. good or bad idea for a daily?

what's up people? I have a 2000hatch with a stock y7 except for intake and headers, the motor has 300k but mostly highway and not beaten on and was thinking about going turbo on about 5pounds... would this be bad for the motor to the point that it wouldn't last at all?

If you do run Arp headstuds and a oem head gasket and a good dyno tune

bad idea for a daily mode of transportation, because it probably wont be reliable,, but if you just want something to boost and have fun with, by all means proceed fella

5psi isn't a goal...its an arbitrary number. Set your power goals in terms of whp. For a stock D series, you're limited to 220-240whp before things start coming undone. If the engine has good compression and is healthy, there is no reason why you couldnt boost it; however, the added power will quickly point out any weak areas on that engine...

Since you're running a D series, it would almost be easier to find a new longblock to boost. They're only $4-500 anyway

It's all in the tune...

no tune/shitty tune means things will break
decent tune with reasonable goals shouldn't be a problem but like stated above, if that motor has any issues or weak spots you are sure to find them sooner with forced induction.

as long as the compression and leakdown numbers are fine you shouldn't have a problem, although you need to do arp headstuds and an OEM headgasket before you boost it.

Then look at your engine mounts and clutch.

If they are original, better to replace it now then after it fails. If the mounts fail, then youll have a whole new set of problems to: deal with/pay for/replace

A leakdown and compression test is needed to check the health of it.
Plan your build and put aside about 3000 to do it right.
