Default Short Ram Intake setup on Type R??

Does anyone have any numbers from a dyno, with a short ram style intake such as comptech or J's or any filter on a stick...I have a comptech drop-in filter in my stock air box, with the box lid removed it fells much more responsive (but sounds angry and wrong). Im assuming the hot air factor hurts hp.
Is the J's racing intake good for horsepower? The design reminds me of the JDM prelude type s stock intake setup, but it uses a box to house the filter just like usdm. I know the larger volume has to feel a lot better, but does it actually help?

the CAI is better on the top end and the shorter was better for low end, Just ask yourself where is the power band on a C5? answer fullfilled.

i showed more than 10whp loss on the dyno after removing the lid on comptech box with comptech filter

with comptech scoop and turn signal out i always show increase in trapspeed in 1/4 mile..

So on the dyno the J's intake would lose hp too?

its all relative, an intake is not a snail or tuned cams....

can you even feel a 5whp difference?

I definately can. Felt the whole difference by dropping the header on.

Edit: A short ram giving 5whp on the ITR is amazing...I have yet to feel a difference with just intake on ITR's.

I dunno, mine is really loud, so it's gotta be fast!

Back to reality, B2 is right.

What about K and N's drop in filter? I heard this was supposed to do well. just a thought

i'd put it in this order

comptech foam filter > k&n filter > paper filter

me and my friend switch intakes on our R's i let him borrow my aem cai and i borrowed his universal short ram intake(his spoon filter with oem intake didnt want to fit). Anyhow i could feel the difference, it felt like my car wanted to bog but it had a lot of throttle response, but didnt seem to respond well with my car.

I've heard people gaining more hp in mid-range and up top with a short ram style intakes because the CAI are way too long. Especially if your running a bigger throttle body. Has anyone had this experience too?

I can't. I installed header and aftermarket cat this summer and couldn't notice the difference after install. But I can definitely notice LOSS of power and my short ram definitely has this effect especially at low RPM's.

I dyno'd filter on a stick, no intake arm, no filter, filter on throttle body on the dyno and the icebox is the best for an ITR imo.

Who cares about dyno comparisons with intakes? All that dead air is a real good indication/simulation of regular/race driving conditions.

Get a AEM CAI if you like loud, Ice box/stock if you like quiet, and J's if you like bling.

I had the Comptech short ram for about 4 months and it was a good improvement, but I have recenlty upgraded to the Icebox. Much quieter and better tourqe according to the butt-dyno. Don't listen to Chris (1107) you don't get the J's for the bling factor, you get the J's if you have an obsession with Snausage

That's why you use a big *** fan. I care about dyno comparisons because why would I want less hp? Defeats the purpose of modding.

Fan, schman. It had better be a wind tunnel type fan. I think it has been proven already that:

AEM/comtech ice box- max 5hp, best top end increase of this bunch.

short rams - max 3? hp, better mid increase.

J's - bling and mad throttle response. What I have to say about throttle response is that after my day at gingerman, I think ANY intake has mad throttle response when you spend all your track time above 6K rpms, so I guess the 'mad throttle response' excuse for buying the J's is useless except for the street and maybe autox.

Stock box with resonator WITH stock filter - very good.
stock box with resonator and K&N - type filter - slighty better.
Stock box WITHOUT resonator - loss of power.

Short ram is for high end, CAI is for mid range and a bit more torque. Anyone saying CAI is good for high end horsepower is wrong.

I would only use short ram if there is way to get some cold air in from the outside. Under normal driving condition, there isn't enough cold air moving in the engine bay.
