Default VTEC engine on a non-SI Civic?

Hi all

Do they even make later model non-SI Civics with VTEC engine? So far, I saw them only on SIs, and I do not really want to get into manual and pricy brand, that comes with SI badge.
Any "regular" Civic I looked at has a non-VTEC engine. I know they used to put VTECs on regular trims, as we had 96 Civic LX with VTEC. But then of course it was in the 90s...

Thank you

LX never came with vtec. You may be thinking of the EX model. Search the newer civics and see if they have i-vtec in the EX models.

Maybe it was Ex. Been a while.Thank you.
I tried to scope via the engine itself, but can't find the fitment info. I'll look into EXs.

Every Honda nowadays have i-Vtec, there's just different implementations of it.

So why then SI model has I-VTEC in large letters on valve cover and LX/EX does not?

Are you talking about SOHC VTEC?

The non-Si trims are equipped with the R18 SOHC engines. The Si has a DOHC I-VTEC 2.0 litre engine the K20Z3 or now the K24.

I am not sure the R18 is VTEC or not. If it is, it would only be on the intake side, or very mildly on both valve sets.

Got it.
It's intake side only.
Thank you.
I have my answer.

Again, there's different implementations of "i-VTEC".

Unless you get the DOHC I-VTEC it is a complete waste of money and time. It would blow your mind how much slower the SOHC is in the new cars. With that being said, it is all junk lol.

The i-VTEC on the r18 is designed for fuel economy and not performance like the Z6 or Y8 for the 90's... that being said VTEC on those engine wasn't anything to brag about either...
