VTEC engine on a non-SI Civic?
Hi all
Do they even make later model non-SI Civics with VTEC engine? So far, I saw them only on SIs, and I do not really want to get into manual and pricy brand, that comes with SI badge.
Any "regular" Civic I looked at has a non-VTEC engine. I know they used to put VTECs on regular trims, as we had 96 Civic LX with VTEC. But then of course it was in the 90s...
Thank you

The non-Si trims are equipped with the R18 SOHC engines. The Si has a DOHC I-VTEC 2.0 litre engine the K20Z3 or now the K24.
I am not sure the R18 is VTEC or not. If it is, it would only be on the intake side, or very mildly on both valve sets.

Again, there's different implementations of "i-VTEC".
Unless you get the DOHC I-VTEC it is a complete waste of money and time. It would blow your mind how much slower the SOHC is in the new cars. With that being said, it is all junk lol.
The i-VTEC on the r18 is designed for fuel economy and not performance like the Z6 or Y8 for the 90's... that being said VTEC on those engine wasn't anything to brag about either...
