Default Running Rich: black, sooty bumpers?

Ok. We just had this thread started this morning:

With my stock exhaust piping/cat/header, I had a very *very* little amount of black 'soot' around the exhaust tip. After returning from gingerman (full day) with the DC JDM and 2.5" Carsound Cat, I noticed a had quite a bit of little black marks all over the bumper. NOTHING close to what the bumper looks like above.

My question is this: Is this due to running rich? I realize that an excessive amount of burnoff would cause what happened in the above picture (bad rings??), but in small amounts, is this caused by the stock computer's tendency to run quite rich? I don't burn oil much at all (only Mobil1 5w30) and haven't had this before going to the track. I'm assuming this is from being between 6K-8.5K most of the time the car was on the track.

Whatdaya say about that?

Running rich with I/H/E is completely normal.

I heard 'bad rings' and the like in the other thead and decided I'd better ask, even though mine wasn't nearly as bad.

Chris - who goes home now after his pw'ing session that leaves him at 1000.

my bumper turned like that after i modified my header

i thought it was normal...now, i find out i have burn oil problems (rings)

i don't even know if the header or the rings caused it
