Default Remove all clear coat?

I'm doing a budget respray on my VX due to massive clear coat peelng and some (previously unknown) Bondo that gave way.

Do I need to completely sand away the clear coat in order to respray, or is it sufficient to sand smooth, removing all bubble and feathering the edges of the peeled areas?

I'm using Rustoleum to respray. Yes, I'm cheap. It's my daily driver that gets me from point A to point B. If it hold up for a couple years, I'll be happy.

If the clear is not peeling you can just scuff those areas, where it is peeling you will need to take it down and the area around it. I suggest at least 400 grit wet or 600 dry. Then just paint over that. Should hold good.

i painted my car with very little prep and it chips exposing the factory paint job underneath.
