Trouble in paradise...
Alright so this long process is finally coming to an end and i need an answer. To recap, one day i got in my car and the belts started squeaking. Had this happen to me in previous vehicles so i've changed the belts and viola! The squeaking was gone. Changed the belts in my current vehicle (91 civic) and squeaking still persisted. I have 2 belts. One belt from the crank pulley to the A/C and another one from the crank pulley to the Alternator. Removed the useless A/C belt and still squeaking. removed the alt belt and the squeaking stopped completely. Just swapped out the alternator for a brand new one today and the squeaking still persists. I have the recommended tightness on the alt belt so i know it cant be the alt bearing... Does the Harmonic balancer/Crankshaft pulley have a bearing, and is it the culprate? Is there any possible squeaking from inside the timing cover? What should my next move be?
UPDATE: just went out and tightened the alt belt as hard as possible and it worked... I was against this at first because i heard it can damage your bearings but i guess if there's no tensioner or idler pulley your supposed to pivot the alternator back afap
