P/S belt shaking at bottom of crankshaft pulley
i noticed my car was making a loud knocking noise and found out that it was coming from my crankshaft pulley. i thought the belt was loose so i tighten the belt. and it was still making the same noise and looks as if it was still loose. when i turn on my car i notice the belt shakes a lot at the bottom where it is connected to the pulley. i took it apart and saw that the pulley where the P/S belt goes around had a 1 inch cracked. looks as if something chipped it. does anyone know if that would cause the belt to shake and make a knocking noise. it goes louder evertime i rev my car. don't know if a leak in the p/s would make it do that too.

yeah everything all the bolts are tight on the crank pulley. i just haven't had the time to take everything out. i'm thinking it might actually be the little crankshaft pulley that runs the timing belt. i wonder if it's loose in there. would that matter by any chance.

if you crank shaft pulley is cracked there is a good chance it is out of balance and if that is the case run on it long enough and it will rip the engine to shreds get a new crank pulley they are not that expensive

just today i started my car up. i notice that it wasn't just my p/s belt but it was also my a/c belt too. it was shaking just like the p/s belt. so i'm guessing that it is my cam pulley. but thanks for all the replies. i'll keep everyone posted on what happens when i try to fix it.
