Default Got me a new block :)

So I finally got me my new bottom end. I let some deals get past me, but I waited and waited and then I jumped on this baby right here!

It came with the oil pan, pick up tube, dipstick tube, a couple mounts, crank pully and gear, timing cover, great looking HONDA belt, water pump, oil pump, rear main seal, breather box and water tube plus thermostat housing. Got it from JJ Motorsports in S.A. Big thumbs up!

It was a auto, so I'm thinking it had an easy life, im thinking i got a good deal. Gonna throw in some new KING bearings, new piston rings, thinking about honing it but im not sure yet, or going 75.5mm with new piston tops. I already got a Y8 head for it. Gonna chamfer the bearing oiling holes too... Port the pump, maybe shim depending on how i tight the clearances are.

Thoughts?

That engine looks VERY tired. You have a lot to learn as well. You have no choice on honing with new piston rings - it is a must. Also, if you are going to use over sized pistons you have to have it bored anyways. That crankshaft needs to be checked out and at the minimum polished. Not sure what the hell a piston top is either. Do you mean a piston or coating the top of the piston?

How does the engine look very tired? The crank has no scratches at all! The bearings Ga e very little wear, which is normal. New pistons, over size 75.5mm I meant. Of course you have to bore it out if you put bigger pistons lol!

My bad, if you know it all then why did you ask all those questions? Just out trolling around because you are bored?

Bearings down to copper is not "very little wear". Cylinder walls look extremely glazed. Crankshaft may be in spec but it definitely needs a polish. Finally, no, you don't bore it out then choose pistons later. You measure and inspect, order appropriate over sized pistons and bore for proper piston to wall clearances.

I would take the crank to your local machine shop and have them measure the crank journals. Might as well take the block with you and have them measure the holes as well.

If everything is okay, you're only bearings and piston/rings away from a good block

I never said you bore it out first and then add pistons lol. Of course you bore each cylinder to each specific piston, not one bore fits all. I never said that, where did you see that?

That motor is tired, but looks to be an easy refresh on a budget. You could buy a ball-hone and hone it yourself. If the crank has no scratches that catch your fingernail, you can polish it yourself with nevrdull wadding polish. Naturally use new rings, bearings, gaskets, and oil pump.
