Default L3 Main Input Bearing Check??

Any way to check the main input bearing on an 88-91 5 speed transmission without splitting the case. The trans is out of the car. Thanks.

I have heard you can put an axle in it and wiggle it around, if its loose then the ISB is on its way out.

Nope. Well if you can wiggle the input shaft up and down it's beyond bad, but even if there isn't any play it can still be bad.

No play side to side or in and out. The shaft turns freely. I know these things are known for their great bearings and forks. One guy wants 300 labor to replace bearing w trans already out of car. Seems a bit steep to me.
