Default Gear Shift lights out

Hello,

I have a 2000 Honda Civic EX and I am trying to figure out why my gear shift lights (P, R, N, D3, D4, etc) are out and how to fix them. I was thinking a fuse or light bulb might be out, but I am new to fixing cars and not sure what the problem is.

The dash/instrument lights are out too, when I turn the headlights on. Not sure if the problems are related. I checked the fuse on the instrument lights (#30) and it is still good.

Thank you for your help.

Are they out, or are they adjusted all the way down? There's a small ****, should be to the left of your steering wheel. Turn your lights on, then try moving the **** left and right, see if that helps. If it doesn't, do you have a voltmeter?

The Dimmer switch had no effect on the lights unfortunately. I have a digital multi meter. Showing 14vdc at battery, but only 8vdc at fuse #30 (fuse for dash lights).

RonJ is much better with this particular problem than I am, let me see if I can find any of his posts on the subject. Otherwise, hopefully he pokes his head in here.

Test both tabs of fuse 30. What is the voltage at each tab? Do the same voltage test on fuse 25.

Did you already try replacing the fuse?

What about the under hood fuse? I think it's #43?

Do you show 8v on both tabs, or only one? Remove the fuse and test it for continuity - fuses can look fine, but be blown.

I don't have a wiring diagram in front of me, but I believe you should be getting battery voltage at that fuse. I might be off-base here, but do a continuity test from the battery positive terminal to the fuse. Does continuity change if you move the brightness control dial while testing?

That's for the dome light.

My friend is helping me and he says "Tested continuity on fuse 30. 8vdc was tested between both tabs. Bad ground? G401 or G402"

Ambiguous^

8V between the 2 fuse tabs or 8V for each tab to body ground? With light switch on or off?

And voltage results for fuse 25?

Hello again, sorry I was on a different computer and forgot my password and wasn't able to log back in until now.

"8V between the 2 fuse tabs or 8V for each tab to body ground? With light switch on or off?" - He said he tested between the tabs with the lights off.

"And voltage results for fuse 25?" - What is fuse 25 for? All I could find is "meter" for fuse 25. He was curious why we needed to test fuse 25.

Thank you everyone for your help so far, by the way.
