0-300 miles - less than 4k rpm - avoid the freeway and staying at the same rpm all the time

300-500 - take it up to 5k once in awhile

600-800 - hit some vtec but don't burry it

800-1000 drive it hard once in awhile...

Load the engine ie. uphill climbs, 4 people in the car. Also drive normally (avoid freeway). I suppose its ok to hit vtec/redline but only a couple of times here and there.

Then after first service punch it hard

you never know if a acura tech already rev the pissed out of them.

I worked at a dealership and seen this done before. Hell, when the first WRX came out, I had it for half a day and rev the crap out of it. decided not to buy it

Everyone has different things to say about the break-in process. I read a book on it (Break It in Right by Bob/Bill Sikorsky, I think), and basically just try to keep your RPMs in 3-4K, and vary your speed, but try not to exceed 60 mph.

Don't accelerate hard or past 4k or so unless it's an emergency. Keep this routine for at least the first thousand miles. After the 1k mark, take it up to redline a couple times, but don't do it too often. Try to keep it under 5k for most driving. You can increase your speed past the 60mph mark.

Get your oil changed at 3k, or whatever is the recommended interval for your first oil change, per your owner's manual. Honda has been known to put in a "break-in" oil, so keep it until Honda recommends swapping it out. After your first oil change (I think it's 3k) just drive it how you would normally.

I'm not so sure about the don't exceed 60 mph part. I got mine in Kansas City and drove it to Nashville the same day. I went about 70-110 mph the whole way, varying the rpm (shifting between 4th and 6th). As long as you don't go above a certain rpm, the engine doesn't care how fast you're going. I didn't burn any oil and I'm still not burning any. I did this with my last car, too (00 ITR). No long term problems at all.

Yo Silock. Drew right?? I think I remember you from ClubSi. PY ITR with Jun3s and TE-37s, i think. I think the 60 mph is more towards ensuring proper break-in of tires, but at the same time, if you don't pass 60, most likely you won't exceed too high of an rpm either....thus your engine breaking in propery

sorry if this post isn't coherent. I'm a little drunk...

i work at the honda dealership and help out with the PDI'S(pre-delivery inspection) and all i do is put 10 miles on them. well when i drive cars, i keep the revs low and treat it like it was my own(since i wouldn't like it if someone did the same to a car i would want to buy). sometimes after i park the car, 10 minutes later the ******* salesman drives it like **** taking it down to the clean up bay. they even do this to the s2k's...

it's a good thing.

http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

after the first 25 minutes of life out of my engine, i was hitting redline and letting the car bring the revvs back down.

I would beat the **** out of it for 35,000 miles and take it back to the dealer for repair.
