Default B20b CSS!?

If anybody has any personal experience just curious how these are holding vs a regular individual sleeve b18..I'm going to be doing a simple 400-450whp build in a dc sedan. i was looking at a 84mm b20 just because the car is going to stay full weight and figured the extra torque would help.

They do, I found some posts on b20vtec.com couple years back when they started offering the service because of the demand, only difference is they weren't offering any type of warranty due to design of the monosleeve prone to cracking in the same spot.

http://www.cylindersupportsystem.com/

Website says they do. Also says it's guaranteed to 500. It'll definitely hold better than a stock B18 would.

^^yes i noticed the b20 was included on there site as well. i would just make the call and see what he has to say about them, but i was more so looking for customer experiences as far as longevity goes because it seems a no brainer why anyone wouldn't want to build a simple 2Litre. just making sure there isnt something i dont know before i go ahead with the build as i dont hear much about any b20 css blocks.

Sorry, at this point I am not offering the CSS for the B20's. The reason, is because the process needs to have a couple failures before I can truely understand its limits and so far there hasn't been one failure. The B20 has unique cylinders which are joined and are proven to crack between cylinders. While I believe the CSS will help any aluminum open deck block, I do not want the first "cylinder crack with CSS" to be between the cylinders on a B20 because its a known weak spot.

I will do these in the future but not right now.

Ok, here is the deal. You can start sending over your B20's. Price is the same as all others. Turn around will be longer until the process is perfected.

BUT!!! I will not offer any type of warranty if the cylinder cracks between the cylinders because this is a known weak spot.

If you want to see B20's with this type of cracking simply Google / Image / B20 cracked sleeve.

I think anything over 300whp out of a stock sleeve B20 is asking for trouble. Unless you are a highly skilled tuner driving around with your laptop always plugged in...

If you want 400+ then you should just step up and sleeve the block. That way you can be confident that it wont blow on you.

Unless this is a race car that wouldnt leave you stranded if it blows.. lol

I talked to him last year and he said he hadnt had any issues with any b20s. I wanna say he knew of one in the 500 range running with no issue.

And that is a 3 year old thread.......

I never realized how cheap CSS was...it makes me want to build another turbo honda. I already have 84mm Arias ~10:1 pistons with GSR rods sitting in my garage. I just need a b20 block

ive seen stock b20 sleeves handle 450hp with no block guard and 650-700 with a GE block guard. Im assuming your golden for 400-450 with the CSS.

I recommend getting the block decked at the same time as the CSS install. The CSS process isn't complete till the block is decked so you might as well have it done there in case there is any issues.

It took a month to get my block back from the day I shipped it to the day I received it back. Shipping was roughly 60 bux each way. Total cost for me was roughly 500 bux for CSS, decking, round trip shipping. The guy does good work.

For a b20 you still have the weak link of the uni-sleeve, but that's just me.

I've heard good results with other honda blocks, a few friends run them... but the b20 I wouldn't trust farther than I can throw it lol

I stand corrected, I saw in a post a while back the service wasn't offered for B20s, I've never looked into the services as I don't build anything that would be pushing the limits of the stock sleeves. My apologies for misinformation.

It depends on your power goals. The B20 idea i'm kickin around would be a mid 400whp build which on stock sleeves is a bit sketchy, but on the CSS setup, it should be alright. Its not the right solution for everyone, but it has its place.

You can get the low compression nippons. They have sets already machined for aftermarket rods on ebay. That would be your super cheap route.

Aren't Nippon pistons cast? And therefore subject to the same ringland failures as a stock piston? I searched but wasn't able to find much. From the pictures I saw, they sure look like a cast piston

yes they are cast... but lower cr with floating wrist design.

I would go feel find using them for anything under 450whp.

Thicker ringlands then stock pistons. Ive always heard good things about them for low budget setups. Plus you can run aftermarket rods with the floating ones. You can still run stock rods with a regular set and theyre a lil cheaper.
