99/00 HR-V drinking problem
Hi friends.
I have a 1999/2000 Honda HR-V. It's done about 165.500km and since I bought it it's been drinking all oil I've put on it, at different speeds but emptied in under 1.000km (~500mi).
I went to the dealership in April and an old "expert" there told me the older Honda engines need thicker oil. So I went from 10-30 to 15-40 but with no difference what so ever. So what do i do? It's nit leaking anywhere.

Do you see the blue-ish smoke coming out of the the exhaust?
If you are not leaking oil then you are burning it it.
Either your head gasket is done for (more likely) or piston rings (less likely).
Also, I have no clue what hr-v is. This is a cr-v forum. Do you have pictures of your car?

There is no blue smoke.
There is no leaking oil from beneath the car.
I will check the headgasket as soon as i can afford to replace it, or do whatever needs to be done.
Wondering if i should bring it to the Honda dealership in Iceland since i get all the parts for free, only have to pay the labor, since my dad is good friends with one of the ceo's.
This is a 99/00 Honda HR-V Sport. 3 door. It's mine.
It's got the same poopy 4wd as the cr-v.

I highly doubt i have the tools required.
I'm taking it to a local repair shop soon, as i'm quite fed up with having to feed the engine something like 8 liters of oil for about 1800km.
If it can't be fixed cheap (for less than $800) then i'm getting rid of it and getting something else for my ground zero subwoofers.
I have not.

The oil rings could be slugged up, letting lots of oil get into the cylinder. How do the spark plugs look? Google "reading spark plugs" and compare them to pictures. A while ago a relative let me work on her Toyota. It was burning lots of oil and the spark plugs had what looked like a greenish mold/lichen growing on them from the oil deposits.
inDEED!! i'd say she's a keeper...
quick question, what altitude are you typically operating the vehicle at? (just curious)
I like the ride, i've never seen one in the states, although that's not so surprising. i've never even seen a Ford Ka over here, either, and they suffer a nearly universal ubiquity in parts of the EU/UK lol
drinking problem with no smoke. that oil is going somewhere, and "needing thicker oil" in an engine with as tight tolerances as Honda builds their motors to... may be doing yourself a disservice. I try to keep in mind that *rarely* if EVER is there anything that you can pour into yr car to "fix" such a grievous problem as monstrous oil consumption... it's always better to isolate the issue...
Which engine does that one have?
