Who makes honda obd 1 and 2 scanners
I want to buy Factory scanners , does anyone know who makes the scanners they use at the dealerships?i know I can buy aftermarket but does anyone know who makes them or the best aftermarket ones to use?
Obd1 and 2 are way different animals. Obd2 (96-present)has a data link connector, so that's easy any scanner will do that now a days. The obd1 is the though one since its DLC is only two wires. What are you looking to do with said scanner?
obd 1 you can look for a PGM tester and or http://www.hondapartsnow.com/genuine...Z-001010A.html
obd 2 I use this one http://innova.com/en-US/Product/Deta...2-b5651403159e
shop next to my job used something similar to this snap-on scanner to check my abs light http://www1.snapon.com/diagnostics/us/SOLUSUltra
is this for DIY, shop use? what's your budget? best means a lot to different people. stop by a Honda dealer an ask a tech what they use.

^^ Holy ***** the dealer gets $13 for the SCS connector?
Go to the junkyard and clip the female seat belt light connector off the bottom of the driver's seat on the first Honda you see. Loop the wires and you have an SCS connector.

This will for personal use for my civic as I am looking at either a 93 or 99 hatch presently so I want to purchase tools to have on hand.I do know about the paper clip and reading the blinking lights I was just curious for obd1 if there was a hand held scanner to connect and read the results. Thanks for the help everyone.

Yes there was, but they weren't nearly as useful as you probably think they were. The processors in those old ecus just plain don't have much power. Freeze frames and all that good stuff are an obd2 functionality.
Your money would be better spent moving to NepTune/Hondata/etc to take advantage of the datalogging features.
