Blue smoke losing oil help! video inside
Hey hondatech so I'm losing oil in my b18a1. Something like a quart 500 miles. I made a youtube video for my exhuast and when I watched it I could see the oil burning up.
So my question is, what do I fix to solve this. Rings, stemseals?
Here's the video
compression was good and even, 195 190 190 190. Has good power, I do drive it hard and engine brake alot. I should do a wet compression test

It really depends on what causes it to smoke and when. Does it smoke at high RPM, after idling, from a take off, when u let off the throttle? More info please
The only time I noticed it was smoking was in the video. I never see smoke when I drive. Only thing i notice is the oil loss.
at the time of the video the engine was warm i believe. I got the parts on the way

I just replaced the pcv valve about a week ago. The video was taken before that. The black box was cleaned and was from my old gsr.

Just took a pic of the pcv valve and this is what it looks like

U just gave me an idea. The black box I'm using was taken off my old gsr. And that gsr also burned oil mysteriously like this. The pcv valve was oily also and there was oil around the top of the black box. Maybe the black box is bad? I cleaned it out with gasoline a while back.
I could try switching black boxes. I have the original b18a1 box.
Also that gsr was rebuilt with great compression numbers but still lost oil.
Oh and the pcv valve ball inside still clicks but does sounds a little gunky. Juat read another thread and its possible its the black box.

the black box is just an empty box. It's an OEM catch can really. You can try spraying break cleaner thru the PVC valves and clean them out and see if that helps. Unless the box is rusty and has a hole in it.
Is the box hooked up right? with the nipple above it going into the block running into it and the pvc system hooked to the IM?

yea i know the box is just a baffle. Yes the box is hooked up right. hole closer to firewall is pcv and other is back to the block.
I had my valve cover breather open for a while. I just put back the hose that connects to the intake. I'm gonna see if this makes a difference. I also added about 3/4 quart of oil. It was down to almost first dot.
Once I boost..I'll vent the valvecover with two bungs and delete the pcv and put the two fittings on the back of the block. 4 hoses to a catch can near the battery.

I would also do a compression and leak down test to see is the rings are worn as well. Also the valve seals could be leaking too and may need replaced.
compression results were 195 190 190 190. Leakdown was in then green on my Harbor freight tester. % was high but was in "good" area of the scale. Also my oil pan gasket was hard as a rock. It was super stuck on my oil pan. I had to scrape it off. And the drain bolt was leaking. I replaced it with and oversized but still leaks droplets. I'll try a metal washer instead of the plastic one it came with. Or I might even get a new pan
so I am more leaning towards the valve seals are starting to leak. very common, but won't cause any problems besides burning a little oil. You can either run and keep an eye one your oil every once in awhile, or change them.
I am having the same issue. went through 2 quarts in 1700 miles. I have heard that their are some additives that can be added as well to slow the burning of oil. Are those worth it at all?
How difficult are the valve seals to replace? New to Honda.
