Default Is there a trick to getting this to seal?

I'm having leaking problems from where the water pipe that runs along the back of the block meets the thermostat housing.

Right where it meets it water is just trickling out.

I have taken this thing off 3 times now and RTV'd the **** out of it with a new gasket and the first time it would only leak after cooling off a little bit. The 2nd time it held a little longer. Now, it just leaks like a ************ when the car is running.

Is there a secret to this thing? I'm getting real fed up with dealing with this. It's literally the only thing keeping me from daily driving this car.

Do not use RTV. The O ring will seal itself, but you will want to lube it up before installation so as not to tear/damage the O ring. Adding RTV will jam the seal and is probably causing the leak to be worse than helping.

Get an oem Honda oring and be done with it. Stop using rtv, or atleast do it right, and it's not easy to do it right with rtv to make an oring like that unless you know how to do it.

well, installing it without RTV made it worse. Leaked the worst it's ever leaked and that was with the motor off and stone cold.

I'm going to the junk yard tomorrow. Would an F22B1 thermostat housing fit on an F23A1? There are nearly 0 accords that have the F23A1 at my local pull it yourself junkyard.

alright, found a thermo housing off of an F23A1, the junkyard had one accord that still had it's motor. I'll throw it on there tonight.

It looks like the style of o-ring that came in my gasket set was different. It looked more like a wedding ring than an o-ring. It was flat.

For the record it does look like the 94-97 accord thermo housing would work. The overall shape is the same but it has 3 coolant barbs rather than the 1 the F23A1 has. You'd probably just loop 2 and use the last one.

i would suggest not using the F22B1 housing and just try a different junkyard. or go to a honda dealer and buy oem

Metal parts normally dont leak it would be the hose connected to it which should be simple to fix. or like u said just the O ring
