2000 Civic Si shell project
I am currently undertaking the biggest car project of my life after wrecking my 1998 DX coupe. The body shop wanted $4000 to fix the car in its current condition, so I decided to try and do what I could myself. I bought a 2000 Si coupe that was stolen and recovered. The thieves stripped out the entire interior, doors, front bumper, fenders, and basically everything under the hood. My plan is to take all of the parts out of my DX and put it into the Si.
What I am wondering is where I should start. Should I start taking the interior out of the DX to get access to the wiring?
Any help is much appreciated as I am both scared and excited for this crazy project!

in all seriousness, good luck with this. Personally I think you should start by switching the engine then the wiring over. I would take lots of pictures of where all the wires are suppose to go, and I wouldn't re-use anything that was already there if I didn't have to. Those chop-shop guys probably cut everything to pieces

Yeah, they cut everything up pretty good. I was thinking about converting the climate controls from the pulley system to the electronic while everything is out. The wiring for that seems intact, and I think they left the blower motor and stuff. Should I also discard that? Thanks for the advice! I'll post some pictures soon
if the dash is still in the car there's a good chance they didnt mess the dash harness up, but if they took out the steering column of gauge cluster I would still want to inspect the wiring.
wiring problems can be the biggest headache there is, if they cut up the engine harness, dash or body harnesses, I would swap them over.
personally I wouldn't use any electrical wiring stuff unless I can take it out and thoroughly inspect it to ensure it wasn't cut. Even something as simple as the tail light harness should be inspected after a chop shop has their way with things, atleast in my opinion.

a complete shell swap
I wouldn't splice one in, I would go to a junkyard to get a complete, unmolested harness, or get an aftermarket harness, or find someone who is parting their car and willing to pull their full harness, or wire in a custom job yourself. Splicing wires makes future diagnosis a royal pain in the ***.

Well I have the complete harness from my DX, so I was figuring I would just put that in there. I'm mostly hoping I can salvage the dash harness, however. Because it has controls for the sunroof, fog lights, climate control. I don't know if the DX would have those options built into its dash harness.
I would take it out, thoroughly inspect it, and if possible repair it with heat shrink wire connectors.
you should search this website or google for the diagram for the wiring so you can ensure you put it back together correctly. Hopefully none of the connectors or pigtails of wire are missing
One problem you might run into are some differences in harness. The shell is obd2b your civic is obd2a. Best to find another civic that is similar.

I went out and looked at what wiring was there...basically what remains is the wiring to the cruise control unit under the hood, the climate control wires (which look like they go directly to the blower motor etc), and the wiring to the sunroof, and the wiring to all the lights (cut away at sections). I will really have to delve a little deeper into the torn up dash to be sure of this, but would any of those features plug and play with the dx harness?
