If you're looking for 140, you can piece together a good D series combo for that and stay sohc.

For 200, h22
Or build a b18

It depends on your budget.

JDM B20B - $5-600
B16 transmission - ~$300
Mounts - $100-350
Shift linkage, axles, etc... ~$100-500

And that will give you right around 130-140 whp and more torque than you've ever felt in a honda before lol

so for about a grand i can go b20 with b16 trans, how much for the single cam build up? im hearing the zc build might be a good choice, especilly if i can get a zc twin cam ? what about computer changes for these swaps? thanks im getting it ready for the road now, needs the little stuff but ill have that out the way this week.

how much of a pain is it to go b18c vs b16? same thing basiclly? i had a 94 gsr that the valve seals leaked when vtec cracked but it was still stupid fast lol. it was straight piped to a stainless muffler and had a header was the only mods to the engine, really heavy clutch and it had coilovers that were blown out .i sold it because it was really ragged out bad and got a cleaner but slower honda (not this hatch but another ej si ive since sold .

the reason i want to build this one is ,one time, i bought a 500$ ef hatch and it had a b18 and 5psd on sleeves that wasnt in bad shape body wise and it was really fast and fun car to drive, i fixed some small stuff , the hood wouldnt even open and i sold it to a friend for 800$ on the spot after i took him around the block in it , it was a real fun car and i would like to duplicate that hp . it was a stock b18 with header str8 pipe and a stage 3 clutch, it fried the tires in 3 gears no problem , it was an old beater compared to what i have now but soo much fun ! so a little cleaner version of that is what im shooting for with my new project id like to get it all done engine wise for about a grand.im finding motors for cheap at local suppliers here in LA. its about the same price for sohc vtec motors 300$ 4/600 for b series vtec motors, 3-400 for jdm b20. you get paperwork and 30/90 days on the engine.

i dont want to overcomplicate the swap it may be best to stay single cam , wiring and ecu jumpers and all that stuff being changed out isnt so much what im going for , ive seen too many cars not get done because of that and since its my first personal swap i want to keep it real simple Im more of a paint and body guy myself.

any tips tricks or ideas is appreciated

Hello,

Option1: ZC that's it, its the cheapest and most cost effective.

Option2: Swap "Pistons" from DA1 Integra INTO block, CHECK BORE, ROD LENGTH of both blocks. AKA, compare BLUE-PRINTS for both Engines.

Just had to make my 2-Post "noob" minimum whatever,

Thanks,

Edit: Additional Notes:

For the EF type hatches, the "FRONT LIP from a DA1" fits right on the STOCK CIVIC BUMPER, just trim the edges. Every speed bump will be touched.

Be Safe!

Just swap a b16 with some simple mods, that will put you right in the middle

Budget build?

Easiest in and out thing for me was to buy a Integra XSi engine which bangs out 170HP stock.

The XSi engine drops right in to the EF platform - Cable/Cable trans.

Few wiring issues will need to be sorted. YOu will need mounts. as well as the linkage and axles.

IMO Integra XSI is the way to go.

You can use a USDM b16a1 or a2 but I have a few authentic JDM engines in my cars.

B16A SiR CRX motor 160hp stock
B16A XSi Integra motor 170hp stock
B16A SiRII EG motor 160 hp stock

Theese are all VTEC options.

If you want a easy setup NA no vtec than start looking for a JDM ZC engine, or a integra LS motor. Or keep it basic and source out a D series engine.

I had a First Generation JDM B16A into my 91 CRX and it was awesome.

I would love to try the H22 or K20 Motor if I can afford another CRX Project car.

If I did it all over again, I would go with a B20VTEC. Seems like a really fun build. I've seen some pretty simple (rods/pistons, B16 Head, intake, header, exhaust, tune) set ups run 12s. And that's NA on a fair budget.

The SIRII b16a is 170hp, only the SIRI b16a was 160hp out of the two.

It ain't a big deal, but now you are in a Honda, you should say DOHC for Dual Over Head Cam. Twin cam is like Toyota, etc

But you can call it whatever, same word

I love my B16, got 33 mpg on the hwy going to my parents to visit, fun to drive, kinda incognito, cops don't notice, etc.

ZC.... IMO not worth it. B20 with boost or LS if you are on the cheap. Shoot, even a built D series with some boost would be cheap and could net 11s.

ZC- Agreed, not worth it.

B20 on boost is not NA

LS on boost is not NA

Built D-series on boost is not NA

Also, 11s on a cheap turbo D-series? I'm in for that. My car must be retarded because it wasn't cheap and doesn't run 11s.

OP, I'd run with a B20 with a cable B16 trans. YS1 is the trans you are probably looking for. LSD makes it amazing.

Your budget and what you're trying to accomplish with the car will determine what swap is best for you.

Just noticed you said you may want to stay SOHC instead of DOHC due to wiring. The wiring is the same. It's MPFI vs DPFI that requires wiring. As well as OBD0 vs OBD1. Lastly, VTEC does require a couple wires also.

There you go, that link should help.

Easiest is ZC, most power K24/20, Most common B16. H22 will get you into 13s, and above all...

Use the Search tab, this website is 12 years old and this question has been asked a billion times.

But for my personal set up, I have a B18B with B20 Cams, B18A distributor from a DA, converted to a OBD1 P28 ECU using a Rywire jumper harness for the ECU and a stock MPFI wiring harness.
