Hey guys, I've just purchased a 97' ITR today. I bought it for a pretty good price and there are some issues I need to address with it. The car is having a hard time getting into 4th gear. The car also has a hard time going into the 4th gear when my car is off also. All the other gears shift smoothly. Also, my clutch seems to be slipping as well a bit; will this a worn clutch cause my shifting issues?

Need to open up the trans and inspect syncros and forks but if your going there may as well refresh the trans and replace the clutch

 

Thanks! Yup the clutch needs to be replaced anyways. I'll get everything sorted out soon, hopefully the bill won't do that much damage to my wallet. Weird though, the tranny was rebuilt last year. Maybe they did a bad job..

 

If it is hard to put in gear when the car is off then it sounds like either a linkage problem or an internal transmission problem. It could be a bunch of different things, but it is likely that the 4th gear synchronizers and the slider are chewed up and need replacement.

 

Start with the easiest/cheapest solutions. Try bleeding the clutch line first.

 

OP, Does it only do that in 4th gear? Do other gears shift smooth?
