2000 GSR been sitting in garage for 5 years...
So my wifes 2000 GSR (Yea shes a keeper) has been sitting in our garage in SoCal for the past 5 years. It only has 53K on it before we parked it. At first we would drive it around the block every other week then it just got pushed out to every three weeks and then just sat.
We let it sit for so long because her work paid for a monthly metro pass that picked her up near our house and dropped her in front of her work. (someone will ask why we let it sit)
Anyway just wanted to know what needs to be done to get her up and running again to eventually sell.
Im thinking:
1 Drain all fluids
2 fuel pump and fuel filter?
3 new tires
4 replace plugs and wires (coil?)
5 battery for sure
6 drain gas - how to dispose of old gas?
start up process?

Check the floods and replace as necessary. I would do water and engine oil, maybe transmission oil. Not sure about brake fluid.
I'd do a visual on the tires and definitely do the battery. Skip the ignition stuff unless it is not working.
Call your local waste company to see what to do with fuel.
I'd have a look under the valce cover just to see that everything is ok. Maybe pour a little oil on the cams for startup if it looks dry in there.

Prime the motor before you start it. Pull the PGM FI fuse (back row of the fuse box....near the firewall....all the way toward the passenger side corner, 15A).
Crank it for 10 seconds at a time. Allow about 10 seconds between cranking periods. Do that till the oil light goes out.
Start it up. Let it heat up the oil. Drain and refill with new filter.
Replace all the fluids.
Replace the battery before you start priming.
Tires are probably a good idea
Check brake function.
Drain old fuel and refill with fresh before you start priming. Use it for other purposes or have it recycled. I believe a fire station will take it.

As mentioned, engine needs to be "primed", and to be safe, I would drop in about a tbl spoon of oil into each cylinder, leave the plugs out, and hand crank the engine at least 6 revolutions, pulling the VC and pouring oil along the cams is also a good idea.
Once that is done, reinstall plugs, unplug the PGM-FI Main Relay and crank the engine 5-6 times, [3-4 sec. at a time].
Replace gas and filter, plug PGM-FI Main relay back in and try and start engine.
Let it warm up to running temp., drain oil and replace, this is best done at oil shop, [MinitLube or the like] and have them flush the oil system, you can have them do the transmission and brakes at the same time along with a coolant dran/flush/replace.
