yesterday i noticed that when i turn my steering wheel i get a rubbing kind of sound and a little vibration. it sort of sounds like rubbing your funger overa peice of glass. not sure if it is just because of the cold weather and that my car sat for a week while i was on vacation.

what could it be? something with the steering assembly? it does it all the time even after i drive for a while. you can only hear it a littel ousside of the car.

 

That is common in our cars - it is a bearing in the steering rack that has gone dry and needs to be lubed. Take it to the dealer and have them take a look (if under warranty).

Being cold doesn't help it....

when you turn the wheel any amount, or only when all the way turned?

 

I've owned my R for a lil over a year and it just started doing this about a month ago. Seems to be makin that "dry" sound when the steering wheel is about 1/2 turn in either direction. I had the same thing happen with my '95 GS-R.

I get the same thing... when im backing out or turning the wheel at very low speeds its a rubbing screech type noise. Only seems when im going very slow or making tight manuvers. So its a streering bearing that needs to be lubed?

 

Lube her up.... Nothing major.

 

it happens whenever i turn the wheel. i will get a hold of my dealer. it better damn well be under warrenty or some heads are gonna roll.

 

Same exact thing happened to me and the dealer took care of it under warranty and I've not had a problem since.

mine does this as well, but only in the cold. Just lube the bearing, its easy if you have a Helms to guide you along the way. I had to do mine again this year.

 

Its a rubber bushing for the steering rack. Its common.

Lube it, or take it to the dealer.

 

Same exact problem here; was supposed to get it fixed this morning but was too drunk to take it in. Gonna do it next Friday.

 

same here, only does it in tha cold. i live in tha south so i don't have that much cold weather so i said fuq it.

Same thing for me since I purchased my 97' w/ 36,000 miles. I figured it was no biggie. Only happens on my ITR (that I can hear) when im slowly backing up or pulling out of the driveway(Low speed turning)

My 97' needs lots of lube My seat belt joints are squeeky too. I cant wait to lube her
