Reliability: Stroker or Kraftwerks supercharger?
Hi,
I'm looking for more power on my ITR. I'm considering two different ways, 86x89 stroker using a Dart tall block, or going supercharged using a Kraftwerks kit with the stock B18C (curently pulling strong, 20000 miles and not burning anything except gas :D).
In one case, the engine would have to cope to the long stroke, high revs and about 12 CR, on the other hand the EGT, heat on long runs (20-30 minutes of hard beat).
I dunno which setup would be the most reliable for track use. I sometimes use my ITR on roads but only on week ends for pleasure.

89mm stroke does not require a tall deck. LOTS of people run LS cranks in B18c's and rev to 8,9,10k without issue. Going supercharger is going to make a lot more power but it could be built and tuned to handle the heat.

you can even stay with an ls deck height, an 89mm stroke and run a long rod. I did it. 5.531 long rod with a piston with a .993" compression height piston
if you aren't running at least a 92mm-95mm stroke then a dart tall deck is pointless.
I'm building a dart tall deck 85x98 6" rod FI motor because I can fully utilize the extra deck height. staying 89mm with that block would require a stupidly long rod.

I'm looking at Dart blocks to escape from classic issues of cracked liners etc on B20vtec using B20B/Z blocks.
Decide on what's more for you, and you can supercharge either one without damage.
Sure, if I use a B20B/Z block it will be far less expensive.
So, a B20B or Z block, pistons for more compression and valve clearance and the classic water / oil pump etc.
Was only anxious to have my engine cracked a few month after the build...

you can run a 98mm stroke with a dart tall deck if you have custom pistons and rods made, like i'm doing... but with a stroke that big you won't be able to run the motor over 9k for the most part.
98mm stroke and a 6" rod is a rod stroke ratio of 1.55

Ok, I did'nt realize that the tall black was so.... tall :D
It seems that a B20B or Z, high comp pistons and a very very good tune is the best for me... A conservative 8.5krpm ang good to go.

The dart tall deck has a 226mm deck height.
4piston has a 85x95 dart tall deck, 13:1 static cr with a rod at least 6" along with a ported head, good cams and 50mm ITBs and a good header. it's making 330whp 200lbft on 93. when they went with 52mm ITBs it's now making over 350/220 to the wheels NA
