Default Help please! ITR strange throttle issue

Lately I have been experiencing some strange symptoms that have occurred in the past but disappeared before I could isolate the problem and now they have come back!

So here is what happens: when I start my R, I give it time to warm up like I always do but when I start driving, something weird happens. When I drive slowly with light steady throttle, it seems like the throttle closes and opens a few times rapidly. At first I thought my clutch was slipping because it feels like the car jerks as if its going to stall. But it happens at any RPM as long as I am holding the throttle down lightly.

Example: I was driving on the highway home today and usually in 5th gear with light throttle I keep a steady 70MPH, but lately that whole throttle closing and opening keeps happening. Its quite loud too, its steady at 70 but then when the issue occurs it sounds like I'm engine braking for like half a second and then hit the throttle rapidly again.

The plot thickens: when this happens, I have to give it more throttle so the car wont jerk around. But when I try to lower my speed and slowly let off the throttle it happens again and BOOM the CEL come on. When the CEL comes on, the issue disappears and I can have a steady low throttle again BUT a new issue occurs... no more VTEC.

I apologize in advance if I wrote too much or didn't explain the issue thoroughly. I would go to AutoZone to diagnose the CEL, but I moved to the UK and there isn't anywhere that would check that out for free.

Thanks HT in advance!

Same problem I was just having.

Your TPS is throwing erratic voltage and causing your ECU to try to compensate. That is whats making it jump/hesitate.

You can test it but im pretty sure its done for.

Get a replacement unit at your local parts store <$50 and make sure to calibrate it properly. Reset your ECU and perform the IDLE RELEARN procedure.

Should be good to go after that

Exactly what I was going to say. Test the TPS, recalibrate and replace if needed. Goodluck

Thanks I appreciate the help, I will do that this weekend and hopefully it runs smooth again. Was planning on going to the track but that is now thrown out the window.
