Icon2 Y8 270whp - Bearing Clearance - How much ?

How much clearance should i use in my build?

Its a d16y8 forged, 270whp target, stock crankshaft.


main bearing clearance = ?
rod bearing clearance = ?



Im going to use Clevites Pseries or Hseries.

use brand new stock ACL bearings if the engine has more than 100K miles and stock tightening torques. Clearences will be set up for their own with the proper tightening torque.

a clearence between .007 and .013 sould be ok.

Standard acl are equivilant to honda greens. Check your crank and block codes to see what honda oem calls for.

And .007-.013 is WAY WAY WAY TOO BIG
I think what he meant was .0007-.0013 which imo is too tight. You should shoot for at least .0015 on the mains and rod journals.

My b series I built is setup with about .0018 on 1 2 4 5 journals, and .0022 on journal 3, and .0015 on the rod journals (I was shooting for .0018 but my measurements werent accurate enough)


Mileage has absolutely zero to do with bearing sizing.

Thankz for the replies.. indeed 0.07 is too much

0.015" is OK for the rods?


Any more inputs - any y8 guy here?

yeah that was a typing error...

IMO mileage has to do with bearing ACL replacement concerning heavy modified engines.

a 0.0013 sould be good for rods also (even if it is 0.0015 it wont make any problem i agree with m4xwellmurd3r)
