Second opinion needed
hey guys, my 01 itr seems to be burning oil whenever im power shifting. a buddy of mine was driving behind me and he said every time i shifted he saw blue smoke coming out the exhaust. there's also black soot that gets on the rear bumper. when i start her up in the morning there's is hardly any smoke from her so im kinda lost, she should be blowing blue smoke if shes burning oil, Correct?
i figure id do a dry and wet compression test to check the motor just to make sure shes in good health. here are the results:

sorry for the side way pic.
i found the specs should be no less then 135psi and no more then 270psi.
must not be any variation greater than 28psi between any cylinders.
according to this, my motor is healthy, but what do you guys think? is it possible that cyl 4 is able to burn oil?
i have plans on changing the pcv valve, air filter, installing a new cat (old one rattles) and possibly changing the valve stem seals if blue smoke continues. i just want to get some opinions about the test results and know what you guys think, thanks.

It's an ITR lol... My 01 does the same thing when it comes to the black glorious shat on the bumper and mine is weird ... It will smoke at high rpms then I won't see it for a month or to and it will come back ... Altho I would be curious to see how mine did with a compression test
Let alone the smoke that comes out of th exhaust, question is: is it consuming oil more than before? yes? way more? yes? or at what rate?
If you answered yes, most chances is it could be a bad/clogged PCV, valve cover gasket or even valve cover bolts'gaskets/washers (especially if it was removed a few times or recently) could also be the rings or valve seals.
If not, then it could be normal for your car an don't worry too much, just follow the situation a lil' more closely in the coming weeks/months to make sure it doesn't develop into something more serious, just so you don't risk burning your motor if it runs out of oil.
Just make sure you timing is set correctly, that the belt hasn't slipped or cam gears aren't misaligned.
Also verify that you don't have any coolant mixed with your oil and vice-versa, it could be a head gasket even if unlikely according to what you've described.
check manually for Check Engine codes just in case it might give you a hint of what to look for that might not be apparent upon inspection.
Only a leakdown will really tell you if it's the seals or the rings.
For the rings the dealers have a cam that they can insert inside of the spark plug hole to inspect the condition of the internals instead of openening the block for nothing.
There could be several other causes and the more I read on the subject, the more my head is going wild, but don't stress, begin with what I suggested here and chances are about 99% that you'll find your answer.

How can a leakdown test identify that the valve seals are leaking? What are you looking for? Air coming out the valve cover?
Wish there was a way to properly check the valve seals to see if they are really the problem without disassembly.

Compression test means nothing. My numbers were perfect but lots of oil was getting past the rings. Your smoking issue sounds normal. B18's smoke a little in VTEC. If it were valve seals it would smoke at start up and go away.
Ok, thanks guys. Im feeling like the oil im losing is a normal thing. I might remove the manifold to check for oil just in case. Better safe than sorry. Ill also keep any eye on mileage/oil loss on my next oil change to make sure its not excessive. Ill post the findings.
