this here timing belt....what else can i do?
Purchased a 94' accord with sohc vtec 2.2 for brothers baby mama. (fun...)
158k miles. no idea when timing belt was done.
I wanna go ahead and do the belt, and whatever else i can do while in there...
So,im thinking...belt,tensioners,water pump/gasket,valve cover etc.
Can i do the crank seal without dropping the pan? Ive never touched a honda anything other then a radiator, and oil change. Ive always been around chevy building v8 swaps,t56s,rear ends and maybe some old 50s fords.
thanks peeps.

While the belt is off and youre doing the valve cover gasket, go ahead and take off the rocker arm assembly and replace the lower spark plug tube seals (o rings), then do a valve adjustment. There is a great link in the accord faq on how to do it. The felpro valve cover gasket kit at O'Reilly is like $16 and includes the VC gasket, upper AND lower spark plug tube seals, and the grommet/washer things that go under the acorn nuts on top of the VC.
I know JACK S**T about cars and I just did the valve adjustment today successfully (to test the waters while I replaced the VC gasket and upper spark plug tube seals), I'm going to do the lower seals tomorrow. They commonly break up and let a ton of oil into the spark plug tubes.

Il go ahead and do them, but i did replace the plugs with ngk v powers and all boots were dry. Woot. Sadly if i have to bust the valve cover loose to do the belt,i might as well do the seals.
Oh,the plugs that were in it,were ac delcos, and had 70 thousands gap on em.....wore out!!!!
also, theres a bunch of oil under the distributor. I noticed there was a oring seal sticking out between the cap,and distributor, but i think thats only for moisture? im guessing its the actual oring between the head and distributor....

dont feel bad. did some plugs on a taurus. they were 85 out. Car had 190k on it with original plugs. thing ran great with the old plugs, still getting like 22 mpg. couldnt believe it.
Oh, you could also check the internal distributor o ring and replace that and/or the dist cap seal, they go bad and leak oil all under the dist (mine did, albeit at 170k miles).
I will. all that i noticed is the cap/oring was pinched out. which im guessing is only for moisture.
So,dis oring,valve cover seals/orings. crank,cover seals,belt,tensioners,cam stuffs. it'll be new.
stupid cv axle boots are broke.....no point in doing em...might as well do the cv's

It's nice having an old car with lots of shiny (or seal-y) new stuff under the hood! I just took my accord outfora "spirited" drive, and i gotta say, I'm rethinking getting rid of it... The new gaskets/seals/plugs and properly adjusted valve clearances just give me the confidence to drive it much harder, and even though it's no powerhouse, that torquey* little motor and 5 speed tranny can sure be fun! I have a '94 as well... Is yours an auto or manual?
*torquey is a relative term lol

its a automatic. Its more or less a grocery getter for her and her kids. Ive never been much of a hondas fan, but i did get a ride in a 5 speed honda del so (or w/e its called) it had the dohc vtec. that lil guy would scooot. another reason im not much of a fan is im 6'5 300lb.....my big *** ant made for no car lol.
