Icon2 shifting into 2nd problem...

got a 98 civic hatch all stock d16y7 and rebuild 5 speed tranny.

my issue is when say going around a 90ish degree turn going about 25ish if i try to just push in the clutch and drop from 3rd to 2nd one of two things happens.

1 either i get totally locked out of 2nd it just wont let me in. it wont grind or anything the sifter just wont go in at all.

2 or if im closer to the 20mph mark ill feel a click and it will go half way in than a 2nd click and its finaly in 2nd and i can go.

but if i coast the corner in neutral and then clutch in and go into 2nd its fine. is this a scynchro problem or some kind of linkage problem or what.

Have you tried bleeding and adjusting the clutch?

Try and see if you linkage isnt hitting off something. If not honda and their infinite wisdom didnt stake the countershaft bearing and that likes to walk out and lock you out of second. How many miles on the trans?

154k total but was rebuilt at a local shop about 4k miles ago with a full bearing/seal/synchro kit from synchrotech. but latly 2nd has been stiffer than the other gears witch are all fine.

I would explain to the shop your issues and see what they say. If it's a small shop, like a mom and pop shop, see if you can get them to diagnose the issue and fix it since they already got a ton of your money rebuilding it. A lot of rebuilt trannies come with a 1 year warranty.

Or slip them a 50 and see if they will fix the issue.

Does your clutch pedal have a lot of freeplay at the top of its travel?
