civic idles rough after clutch job
hi, i recently installed a new clutch and flywheel on my all stock 97 civic d16y8. The fist time i started the car up after the install, the engine has a noticeable shaking that was not there prior the new clutch and flywheel. The entire job was smooth with no problems and i doubled check all the motor/trans mounts that were removed and are torque to spec.
when the clutch is engaged and the vehicle is moving the rough shacking is gone and car drives the same prior to job BUT when at idle (clutch disengaged) 700-900 rpm the engine shakes ... not like a misfire. a continual even shaking.
my best guess is that the NEW FLYWHEEL is unbalance... any thoughts ?

This could be about a million things...including bad flywheel or clutch.
What brand of clutch and flywheel did you use?

I will warn, however, that an imbalanced flywheel is bad news. I've seen a couple of motors start rod knocking within a few days after some shitty unbalanced flywheel was installed.
ok sorry it took so long to get back. im 99% sure its the flywheel . the clutch and pressure plate are made by LUKE and the flywheel is a Oriely Special lol. They were the only store that ha it available soo i took a chance and guess i failed lol.

gotcha. Yeah, I usually recommend people do Exedy clutch kits and either re-surface their stock flywheel, get another OEM Honda flywheel, or buy a high quality light flywheel.
Either your flywheel is imbalanced, or you forgot to install a bolt somewhere. Time to pull it apart and re-do it.
While you're doing that, you should go ahead and drain your oil, and inspect it for any metallic fragments. An imbalanced flywheel puts a LOT of stress on your main bearings, and dollars to doughnuts you had severe bearing contact.

well I pulled everything apart today took the Oriely flywheel to my local machine shop. They spun it a couple times and sure enough it was off balance by a crap load. Luckily i kept my original flywheel and the shop did a resurfaces for $30 and i took that crap oriely flywheel back and got my $65 back... put everything back together and what do you know ?

Lol I'll link this thread when people don't believe me about parts store flywheels.
Glaf you got things worked out, OP.

Glad you got it fixed, OP, but you should seriously consider doing an oil change ASAP, and carefully inspecting the old oil for metallic flakes or debris.
