HELP!!! CLUTCH IS STICKY!
My friend dropped by last night to show me a car he just bought. It was a 88 Accord LXi with a 5 speed and the A20A3. I was stoked, as i had been trying to get him to buy a stick for ages. I jumped in to drive, and as i tested the clutch pedal i realized it stuck to the floor until my foot was almost off it, where it snapped up. This made starts incredibly difficult to do smoothly. I drove it, and each gear shift seemed a little snappy. It was just hard because the clutch felt like it was sticking to the floor.
Can somebody get me pointed in the right direction please? I don't know my way around old accord engine bays, mostly used to 5th gen civics, so please be descriptive if mentioning a certain thing to check.
Thanks.

This isn't GDD, the hell you doing up here?
In all seriousness, check the clutch pedal return springs there are two. #8 and #16. Also check that the clutch cable #1 is not binding up. The cable should slide like butter, if it hangs up at all it should be replaced.

The clutch fork is a bit different than your typical clutch fork, it is mounted on a hinge and has some linkage, verify everything moves smoothly and does not hang up.

I had an issue on my 02 accord very similar to this. I would press the clutch pedal down but it would get stuck and I would have to pull it back up with my foot. The problem for me was a leaking master and slave cylinder. So the hydraulic system was't working like it should.

we are talking about cable operated clutches here bro.

Any new information or are you just bumping for a second opinion?
There really is not much to the cable clutch system. If the pedal/pedal springs are fine, then the clutch cable may be sticking/out of adjustment, if not then it may be an issue with the transmision linkage/fork/throwout bearing/marcel spring in the pressure plate.

#8 should be hooked onto the pedal assembly, and #16 may require nut/bolt/pedal removal to get to or replace.
Remove or detach the cable from the clutch linkage and pedal. If it is what is jamming there will be no need to break your *** working under the dash to replace a spring. But if it is broken/missing, have fun.

I'm not going to get into the BS going on here. I've owned, and still do, plenty of 3rd gens with auto and manual trans.
The first BS, slander or any of that other stuff from anyone and I will walk away from this. I know how to hit the "next thread" button.
My current DD is an 89 LXi coupe, 5 speed.
First thing to do is check the "spring" on the pedal. There is also some bushings, see the pic from Mike.
Next, the cable end at the trans. There is a "cover" where the cabel comes out of the "shell". Be sure that the cover hasn't torn in a way where it might jam/hender the cabel moving in and out.
There is a "holder"/bracket about six inches from where the trans end of the cable "seats" to the fork. There is an adjustment **** there (above the bracket), grab the cable just above that bracket and see if there is a bit of free movement on the cable.
Next, since your friend just got the car......can you take a pic of the cable and how it is run across the engine bay? Wondering if it is wrong or someone put a "kink" in the cable during a clutch or trans change.

And if you need to know.
86 DX 5 speed
87 LX 5 speed
88 LXi Auto
89 LX Auto
89 LXi 5 speed
And none of them left me becuase "something" on the engine/trans "failed". Either my son's did them in learning to drive (crash) or they were sold in running order.
