So my 1999 Honda Civic EX needs a Vtec Solenoid gasket. This is the gasket that is on top of the valve body not the one between the block and valve. Can some one confirm that 36172-P08-015 is the correct gasket? The dealership can't confirm for my model. Thanks in advance.

 

Is the gasket broken? If not, try this:

Use brake cleaner to clean oil from the gasket and the mating surfaces of the solenoid. Then apply HondaBond to the gasket, reassemble, and let dry for a day.

 

You should replace both gaskets if possible

I believe that moderator 94EG8 once posted that the VTEC gasket in question is the same as one of the auto transmission solenoid gaskets. You might want to PM him.

At the Hondapartsnow.com site, I entered the part number along with the VIN for my 00 Civic EX coupe (auto) and the site says the part number does not fit my car.

But an eBay vendor says it would work.

Thanks for your help Ron. I can't believe that Honda would expect someone to purchase the entire valve because the gasket is bad.
